Marie Brate

Rochester, NY

Marie Brate has been a costume designer, seamstress, milliner and knitter for over thirty years. She is a graphic designer, prize-winning handspinner, designer of wearable art, a felter
and dyer who loves the effects of shibori techniques on felt. Marie has studied with Inge Bauer, Polly Sterling, Jorie Johnson and Chad Alice Hagen, among others.


Marie has also performed as a traditional musician in the Rochester area since 1973 with Blackthorn Ceilidh Band, Sweetfern, Doc and the Snake Oil String Band, and as a member of Flint Hill Folk at the Genesee Country Museum.
