Shadow Weave Workshop
Similar to log cabin, shadow weave offers more possibilities for designing abstract patterns as well as traditional ones. Four as well as eight shafts can make intricate designs. One of the fascinating aspects of this weave structure is the endless variations of treadlings, including echo weave and taqueté. The three methods of threading will be explained and explored using the round robin technique as well as weaving on the individual weaver's loom. You will be sent instructions one week before the workshop.
Age: 13 and up.
Requirements: able to dress a loom, read a draft, and bring a dressed four- or eight-shaft loom.
Materials fee: $2 for handouts

Ikat Dyeing
In this workshop we will focus on resist-tying
warp bouts, dyeing them, and learning to vary their arrangement in the loom-dressing stage to create a variety of patterns. It’s amazing what just a narrow ikat or jaspe stripe here or there can add to the beauty and sophistication of the cloth and the finished project! We will use fiber reactive dyes on silk or cellulose fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp tencel, and bamboo. Experienced dyers and weavers may try weft-kasuri and creating simple double
ikat motifs.
Age: 13 and up.
Materials fee: $2 for handouts, additional costs dependent on project selected
