Kennita Tully

Inspiration in art can come from many places. For Kennita, it is the environment in which she has lived in for over 30 years: the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas. Join Kennita as she takes you on her morning walks through prairie grass and wildflowers and the various design processes that unfold as a result.

Bio:

Kennita is a tapestry artist, author, and teacher living in Pottawatomie County, KS. She recently returned to tapestry in late 2017 after a 30 year career as a knitwear designer. Intrigued by the interconnections of life, she attempts to discover the world around her and return those discoveries to the world through tapestries. Kennita has a BFA in textiles and photography from Murray State University in Murray, KY and an MA from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her work has been published in numerous magazines and she teaches workshops nationally and internationally on a regular basis as well as online classes through her website. Sue has been a professional artist and educator in the Rochester area since 1984 after receiving her MFA from RIT and a BS in Art Education from Nazareth College in 1967.  She attended Haystack Mt. School of Art in 1981where she discovered “papermaking”. For many years she has focused her work on three dimensional paper art, mainly paper “garments”- paper clothing inspired by personal ancestry (Ancestral Personas), “shirts” of a playful nature and “pants” that reflect, in hindsight, some of her personal attributes.

Sue was an art educator in Massachusetts and an Art Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, Monroe Community College, Suny Brockport and Suny Geneseo. She has participated in many local, regional and national art exhibitions with awards from the Rochester Finger Lakes Exhibition, Intermont College in Virginia and Adams Memorial Gallery. She has work in numerous public and private collections including Eastman Kodak Co., RIT and the Richard Brush Collection. Sue had a solo exhibition of her work at Axom gallery in 2014 and participated in a group show “Tangible Objects” at the  Main St. Arts Center in Clifton Springs in 2022.
